come on guys leave the quads at home.
« on: September 02, 2009, 04:57:08 PM »
really got messed up this morning , hiked in 4 miles. to a big bowl. before light. 7am sow and 2 cubs came down abig wash 7-800 yds away. then at 730 i looked over at tha south end of the bowl and 2 big bears came down out of the timber.one was a real horse. so i put on the stalk to try and get closer for a shot had to drop down into a hell hole full of devils club and other spiny bushes. just started to work up into the meadow when i hear quads coming down the trail i came in on. obliviuos to the bears. the stop and start talking very loud after a few minutes they leave. so i continue up get over the top and no bears. so i call off and on for 30 minutes. nothing so i hike back out . but the day wasnt a total loss wacked 2 blues on the way out.    strut

I understand your frustration, been there done that. I dont understand either. When they go flying up the road in the dark or in the day all the animals get spooked. And for us that try to do it right get screwed. LAZY PEOPLE

I hear ya man. When I missed that bear a few weeks ago with my bow, some shmoes came up behind several locked/posted gates driving a truck, only to shoot 3 times at bears we were watching in a bowl about 800 yards away. :dunno:

Man, don't get me started!!!

I have a special affinity for the full-tilt Bozos with camo helmets and every quad attachment on earth.  Ride...stop....bugle....ride....stop....bugle...makes me :puke:

Quads and ATVs are a tool that can be useful at times BUT most of the dopes I see are behind gates and/or in wilderness areas.  I'm only one guy and I see far too many where they shouldn't be.

One year in New Mexico I had some dipweed trying to ride up a dry creekbed miles from any road.  I was working a bull and heard him clanking around trying to get over boulders half the size of his quad.  The creekbed only got steeper and narrower in the direction he was trying to go.  What a tool.  Full camo, bow strapped to the front rack.

LEAVE THEM IN CAMP OR STICK TO THE OPEN ROADS!

p.s. All you quad guys - before you flame me about what I see in the woods, start policing your own ranks.

Not just quad riders either.. damn motorcycle riders are just as bad... using the trails to get behind closed gates, then rip and run, with mufflers that are useless, cause you can hear them coming a mile away... >:( >:( >:( >:(

Do your best to get away from the roads, and the road hunters, and here come the bikes...  :bash: :bash: :bash:

Told the Forest Service Law Enforcement guy about it, and he shrugged his shoulders, says, well, I can only do so much... so basically, you can do as you damn well please, and nothing will happen to you.

Hell, there were people this last weekend with huge campfires, like it had been raining for a week or something.
By my honorable conduct as a hunter let me give a good example and teach new hunters principles of honor, so that each new generation can show respect for their god, other hunters and the animals, and enjoy the dignity of the hunt.

Calling an illegal alien an 'undocumented immigrant' is like calling a drug dealer an 'unlicensed pharmacist'.

If I find a quad behind a gate or in a wilderness area, I will make certain the owner is fined if it's the last thing I do on any hunt.  Many of those rigs don't have spares either

In some areas, ATV's are allowed behind the gates. So just be aware of that. Not all of them behind gates are violating the law.

By the way, I just sold my 4 wheeler last week. Needed the money more than I needed the ATV. $2100 will buy a lot of gas for my pickup.

News to me...where?  Maybe later in the fall but not during early bow season that I'm aware of.  :dunno:

I don't like them but if they are being used in a legal area where I expect them to be I don't have a huge problem.

Just one more reason we all should be carrying cameras and snapping pics; cell phone cam, point and shoots, whatever.  Not just to save a memory of a great hunt but also to catch any potential wrongdoings out there.  Not accusing anyone of anything but if you can snap a pic or two of something that looks fishy could be very useful to the authorities.   :twocents:
